Season X - Game IV

Here are my tweets and thoughts on the last game!  As always, feel free to contribute in the comment section below.

3 1/2 hours before game IV! @jimblacquiere you know you wannnaaaa!

This is me trying to entice Jim to come out to the game.  Didn't work. Evil  He didn't even tweet back.  What a jerk.

QFT! RT @Marc_Julien: @jimblacquiere Dude thats awesome! If I win the championship again this season I'll sing a full video clip! haha

I quoted Marc in saying that if he wins the championship again this season, he will sing the full video of this: http://bit.ly/uSHXSs. I wanted to make sure this was recorded and he didn't delete his tweet or something :P  I think Marc looks like JT, don't you?

Shuffle up and deal!! http://yfrog.com/nz3hzaj http://yfrog.com/h87u7phj

Game starts!  13 players... supposed to be 14, but No-Call-No-Show Roland shafted us.

Shawn's out! He moved in with 86 on the turn when the board came 89J6. @Dave_Robichaud calls with 77. River comes a 5! Sorry Shawn.

Shawn was pretty short stacked. it was 400 more in a pot that was at least 450ish. I figured I had 10 outs to win if I was behind, or could have even been ahead if Shawn pushes a 6 in his hand thinking I had AK or something.  So, I felt like I had to call and got lucky on the river. Yay me.

Dave Fraser is out! Mel had AK club and Fraser had K4 hearts. Flop came 234. River came a 5! Go Mel?

I got some feedback from Marc on this, because I wasn't at the table.  But Fraser lost a lot of his stack being ahead on 2 all ins against Stacey, and she outdrew him.  So at this point, Dave was really short stacked.  I'm not sure if he moved in pre-flop or on the flop though..

Dana's out! He moves in on the small blind with 8T hearts, Marcel calls in BB with TT. Board comes all diamonds and Marcel has T diamonds.

I took quite a bit of Dana's chips when I raised in the BB with KK and he called.  With the flop of KxA, I bet, he reraised big, and I moved in.  He studied and eventually folded, but it didn't leave much behind.  So when he looks down at T8 of hearts in the small blind with folds to him, I don't mind this play at all.  Unfortunately for him, Marcel woke up with a hand. I think Marcel folds all Kings, and some aces in this spot, and even if he calls with something like A5, Dana's 40%ish to win.  So, just to say, I think it's a good spot to either pick up a few blinds or try and double up.

Dan raises, Marcel moves in, Barb calls, Dan calls. Marcel 99, Dan AQ heart, Barb AA. Board. Comes nothing.

Dan thought about this for a while, but eventually had to call.  I think it's pretty obvious that he's beat in this case, but with so much in the pot and with the few chips Dan had behind, he was willing to gamble with a strong ace.  The only hand he doesn't want to see is AA... and that's what it was.

Marcel technically knocks Dan out, Merge time!

Just as a side note, since Dan had more than Barb, Marcel and Dan shared a side pot which was won by Marcel with his 99.  So just wanted to point out that the knockout was Marcel's (for our prop bets).

Before we even merged, there was an all in on the other table, Mel gets knocked out by Stacy. Merge at 8!!

Neither Marc nor I remember this hand.  Marc got up for the merge and I was at the other table.  Sorry!

Stacy's out. Knocked out by Lou. 55 vs 98 and the board came two 9s. Stacy is now out! 7 handed.

Stacy was somewhat short stacked coming to the final table, but doubled up an insane amount of times.  I think she was all-in at least three times (and from what I hear, she was all-in at the other table a lot as well!), sometimes against multiple opponents, and won.  This hand, looks like her luck ran out and couldn't win a flip.

Lou is now out! All in with 73 with the board 345. Marcel calls with T5. Turn is a 5, river is a T. Marcel has a boat and we're 6 handed.

Not sure about this hand.  Lou must have been short-stacked to move in with bottom pair and a gut-shot.  But good call by Marcel with only a pair of 5s on that straightening board.

@Marc_Julien knocks out Barb! 89 vs K2 and Marc hits

Ok, let me take this opportunity to go over a situation that we had:

Preflop, there are a few folds, when the action came to Barb, she limped into the pot, then I folded, Dan folded, Josh in the small blind completes the blind, and then the action was on Marcel.  However, Dan prematurely dealt the flop without giving Marcel the chance to act.  So, what do we do?

I had never seen that before, but most of us agreed that the flop cards were to be reshuffled into the deck and a new flop would be dealt after the action was complete.  Marcel ended up raising and everybody folds (he showed AJ to ensure that he wasn't just making a move because of the miseal).  Barb made it clear that she was not in agreement with the situation, but there was really no alternative.  We couldn't just skip Marcel's action, and we couldn't leave those cards as the flop cards.  So this made sense.

Barb was visibly frustrated and ended up walking away from the table, which prompted her to blind away her chips and this hand was the one that knocked her out.

To be clear, this is the correct ruling and I will be adding it to the "official rules" on the website.

Here are two rules that I will be adding:

What happens if the dealer accidentally deals the flop before the first round of betting has closed?
If the dealer accidentally deals the flop before the first round of betting has closed then, just like above, the flop should be re-dealt. The cards from the flop will be mixed in with the rest of the deck and shuffled. A new flop will be dropped after the shuffle.

What Texas Holdem Poker rule applies if the dealer prematurely lays the turn card down?
If the dealer reveals the fourth card or the “turn” card before the round of betting has been completed, that particular card will be taken out of play. The dealer burn a card and turn what would have subsequently been the river card. After the third round of betting is completed, the dealer will place the revealed turn card into the remaining deck and shuffle it. The dealer will not include burn cards in this shuffle. Play will now continue as normal

I hope this clears up any confusion for future games.

Josh is out! A4 marcel's aj. Board didn't come much and we're 4-handed.

I don't remember this hand, but the blinds were getting pretty big, and at a 5-handed table, an ace is pretty big.

@Dave_Robichaud is out! Moved In on the small blind with 23 and Dan woke up with A4. Board came nothing.

I had just doubled Marc up on a pretty bad beat.  He 3 outted me on the river which left me pretty short stacked.  I was just making a move to pick up some blinds and Dan instacalled me with a small Ace.  I was actually pretty surprised how quickly he called, but I guess any ace in that situation is super strong.

Sorry guys! Was dealing with Stacy at 3-handed, so couldn't tweet the knockouts. I'll post the details on the website today!

At three-handed, Marc was in the small blind with J5, and limped.  Dan checks with Q7.  The board comes 23Q and Marc, who is first to act and only has about the pot amount in chips left, decides to push hoping that Dan missed.  Dan hit top pair and obviously calls.  The turn is a T and Marc is drawing dead.  Down to heads up.

I don't remember any of the heads up, I was just shuffling and passing the cards to Stacy, but man, Marcel has THREE 2nd places this season.  He's like the Phil Hellmuth of the MPC.  That's nuts.

Haven't got around to posting the news, but it will happen soon. Also, for those of you interested: http://www.wsop.com/2011/live-video/ live wsop coverage

This is just a side note.  They brought the final 9 of the WSOP to the final three last night, and these three will play for the bracelet tomorrow night.  Anybody interested in watching it, you can watch it live at that URL.

Thanks to everybody that came out, and to our always gracious host Dan (who makes AWESOME popcorn)!  See you all at the next game!!
